LUSBY, Md. — A local family is facing the aftermath of a devastating house fire that destroyed their home Saturday afternoon, leaving them safe but without nearly all of their belongings.
Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 1:30 p.m. on July 12, 2025, to the 11900 block of Hemlock Road for reports of a structure fire with flames showing through the roof. Upon arrival, crews encountered a fully involved two-story residence and launched an aggressive attack as the fire spread rapidly through the upper floors.
All occupants were able to evacuate safely, but the home was declared a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

In the wake of the fire, Patti Higgins—sister of the homeowner—organized a GoFundMe campaign to help support the family’s immediate needs.
“On Saturday afternoon, my brother and his family lost everything in a house fire,” Higgins wrote. “Thankfully, everyone is safe, but they lost nearly everything. I am raising funds for temporary housing, clothes, and basic essentials as they start to rebuild. Anything donated is appreciated!”
As of Tuesday, the fundraiser had reached $14,075 of its $18,000 goal, with 145 donations.
“Any support means the world — thank you for helping us through this,” Higgins added.
