House Fire In Ridge

RIDGE, Md. – On Thursday, July 24, 2025, firefighters responded to a reported structure fire in the 48600 block of Fox Harbor Road after construction workers noticed smoke coming from under a home’s electrical room and called 911.

Crews from Ridge Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched around 2:46 p.m. The workers had attempted to douse the smoke with a garden hose before first responders arrived.

Capt. 4 arrived shortly after aboard Engine 41 and conducted a full perimeter check, initially finding no signs of active fire. However, Engine 41’s interior crew discovered light smoke rising from the crawl space beneath the electrical room.

Additional support units—including Tankers 4 and 44 and Engine 141—arrived to assist with water supply and the investigation. Chief 4 assumed command at 3:01 p.m. and scaled back the response, holding Ridge units and Engine 141 while releasing mutual aid companies.

Due to limited access to the crawl space, crews cut through an exterior wall to reach the source. Burned insulation and lingering smoke were located. A full overhaul led to the discovery of melted, faulty wiring believed to be the cause.

The incident was fully mitigated by 4:28 p.m.

Ridge VFD responded with Engine 41, Tanker 4, Engine/Tanker 44, Squad 4, Command 4, and Safety 4. Mutual aid departments from Lexington Park, Bay District, Valley Lee, and others were placed in service but not utilized.

No injuries were reported, and damage was contained to the area beneath the electrical room.
