A fire sparked by a malfunctioning electrical system destroyed a garage in Charles County Monday, Nov. 5, the office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal reported.
Over 20 firefighters from five volunteer companies and a Navy unit were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze on Piedmont Drive in Cobb Island around 10 a.m. The fire was discovered by a neighbor.
“The fire was determined to be accidental due to a malfunction of the electrical system in the garage,” stated Dfm. Dexter Hodges. “The fire destroyed the garage and all its contents, including a vehicle. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.”
Total damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $50,000.
