CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — A two-alarm fire tore through a Chesapeake Beach apartment building early Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, displacing roughly two dozen residents and drawing a coordinated response from local firefighters, state investigators and the American Red Cross.

Fire crews were dispatched at 6:36 a.m. to the 3900 block of Gordon Stinnett Avenue, where they arrived to find heavy fire showing from the roof of a two-story apartment building, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. All occupants were accounted for, but 14 units sustained extensive damage, forcing about 25 people from their homes.

Deputy state fire marshals remained on the scene late Monday morning, interviewing residents and witnesses and working to determine where and how the fire started. Gordon Stinnett Avenue was closed to traffic while emergency crews operated in the area, and officials urged drivers to seek alternate routes.

The Red Cross of the National Capital & Greater Chesapeake Region said it is assisting about 13 families — more than 20 people — affected by the multi-unit fire. Trained disaster response volunteers responded to the scene to provide blankets, food and water and are helping displaced residents with financial assistance, emotional and mental health support, help replacing medications and other essential items, and additional recovery resources as needed.

In the coming days and weeks, Red Cross staff and volunteers will continue working with partners in Calvert County to connect residents with longer-term recovery assistance and help them get back on their feet.

The cause of Monday’s fire remains under investigation. Further details are expected to be released as they become available.

  1. Then somebody should look into this and see if any building codes were violated. Sounds like crappy construction to me. Oh, wait — this is Calvert County. Why bother with such trivial things. Just build more crap to bring in the money.
