State Fire Marshalls are investigating a house fire in Waldorf that has left one family homeless before the holidays.
On Dec. 23, around 11:15 a.m., fire broke out in a two-story single family home located at 4766 Iceland Gull Court in Charles County.
The fire was discovered by a neighbor and is believed to have started in the living room in the area of the fireplace.
Firefighters from Waldorf, La Plata, Hughesville, Brandywine and Bryans Road VFD all helped to battle the blaze.
The fire started as a result of improperly discarded ashes from the fireplace. The family has been displaced and is being assisted by other family members and the American Red Cross.
Damage estimate rings in at $75,000.
