LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A late-night traffic stop in Lexington Park, Maryland, turned into an arrest after deputies say a driver traveling at a high rate of speed refused to exit his vehicle and allegedly resisted arrest.

Authorities with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office reported that Vincent Joseph Miceli, 30, of California, faces multiple charges, including resisting or interfering with arrest and several impaired driving and traffic offenses stemming from the March 11, 2026, incident.

According to charging documents, the incident occurred on March 11, 2026, at approximately 11:33 p.m., when deputies with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office were conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Route 235 and Pegg Road in Lexington Park. Deputies reportedly observed a silver SUV traveling at a high rate of speed and conducted a traffic stop.

According to police reports, deputies identified the driver as Vincent Joseph Miceli. Authorities reported detecting the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle and observed that Miceli allegedly had red, glassy eyes and slurred speech.

Police documents indicate that when deputies requested Miceli’s identifying information, he allegedly opened the vehicle’s fuse panel, reportedly attempting to retrieve his information but was unable to locate it. Miceli allegedly told deputies he was returning home from a friend’s residence.

Deputies then requested that Miceli exit the vehicle to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs). According to the report, Miceli allegedly refused both the tests and multiple commands to exit the vehicle. Authorities state deputies informed Miceli he was being placed under arrest, but he continued to refuse to exit the vehicle.

Deputies ultimately physically removed Miceli from the vehicle in order to place him under arrest, according to charging documents.

During a search incident to arrest, deputies reported locating five empty bottles of Rolling Rock Lager on the passenger-side floorboards, one bottle beneath the driver’s seat, and multiple unopened bottles inside the vehicle.

Charging documents show Miceli has been charged with resisting or interfering with arrest, as well as several traffic- and impaired-driving-related offenses, including: driving or attempting to drive a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol, driving while so far impaired by drugs and/or alcohol that he could not drive safely, driving or attempting to drive without the required license and authorization, driving at a speed greater than reasonable and prudent, driving at a speed exceeding the posted limit, failure to obey a properly placed traffic control device, reckless driving, and negligent driving in a careless and imprudent manner endangering life, person, or property.

Court records show Miceli was released on a $3,000 bond following the incident. His trial is scheduled for April 21, 2026, in the St. Mary’s County District Court located in Leonardtown, Maryland.

Under Maryland law, resisting or interfering with arrest is a misdemeanor punishable by up to three years in prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000 if convicted.
