Flashback Diner Lexington Park New Owners Take Over

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Customers were already waiting when the doors of The Flashback Diner unlocked at 7 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, walking in for one final morning with longtime owner Dinah and her family before new ownership took over on Sunday. The crowd quickly filled their usual seats, and it only grew from there. By 7:15 a.m., the parking lot was full.

Dinah wakes up at 3 a.m. in Indian Head to make the early drive to Flashback Diner—something she’s done for years out of love for the place and the community it serves. On her final shift, she greeted regulars with a smile, saying the timing felt right and that she’s comforted knowing the new owners will carry on the diner’s familiar atmosphere. “It is bittersweet, but so much love walked through the door.” she said.

Dinah’s love for diners began decades ago, when she owned a small spot with a car hop in the back in upstate New York in 1992. She moved to Maryland 13 years ago and, when Bert’s Diner went up for sale, she looked into purchasing it but couldn’t afford the asking price. When Bert’s eventually closed, she couldn’t shake the itch to open a diner of her own in Southern Maryland. In 2022, she made it happen. She found the former Mixing Bowl building and transformed it into Flashback Diner, bringing her vision to life.

Family support built the diner from the ground up. Landon, Dinah’s grandson, began helping at 14 and grew into a core part of the operation. Her daughter has worked in the kitchen the entire time—without pay. Most of the staff, including Landon and the servers, will stay on with the new owners. Dinah said keeping the team intact is key to ensuring customers still feel at home.

Dinah also ensured that the parts of the diner most valued by the community would be preserved. The sales contract requires the continued use of the biweekly meeting space for the military veterans’ post-traumatic stress support group, which has long been a fixture at Flashback and a key part of its identity.

The contract also notes that Taryn, a local toddler who has been visiting the diner since she was 6 months old and is now nearly 3½, is still welcome to roam freely through the restaurant as she always has. Her presence has become part of the routine, and Dinah said maintaining that was important.

The new owners, a couple from Glen Burnie, were chosen after Dinah spoke with many interested buyers. She said they immediately understood Flashback’s role as a community gathering place and agreed to keep the décor, menu and character the same. Dinah has given them all her recipes to ensure the food—and the feeling—remains familiar to regulars.

Throughout the morning, customers lined up for photos, shared memories and reflected on what Flashback has meant to them — a place where shoulders drop, worries ease and staff members know their names. Many said the diner offered a sense of comfort rarely found in modern restaurants.

Though she won’t be running the diner anymore, Dinah said she plans to return weekly as a customer to stay connected to the community she helped build.

Poodle skirts and the sound of ’50s and ’60s music filled the air, and it was easy to see why people drive out of their way to make Flashback Diner a regular stop. As families gathered in booths and familiar songs played overhead, the final morning under Dinah’s ownership carried the same charm and warmth that built the diner’s loyal following.

Located at 21797 N. Coral Drive in Lexington Park, The Flashback will continue serving the community under new ownership. Dinah hopes both longtime customers and first-time visitors will keep walking through the door to support what she helped create.

  1. I never heard of the flashback diner or saw it down in Lexington Park. I would have loved to have gone with my family. Looks like it would have been a fun place to work with and owner as dedicated as she was to her idea. Why did she sell and who are the new owners?
