The Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center is hosting its fifth annual Soup Cook-off on Monday, February 1, 2010, in the schoolโ€™s state-of-the-art kitchen.ย  The contest has two age groups — a junior division for students and a senior division for adults.ย  Cooking begins at 3 p.m., with doors opening to the public at 5:30 p.m., and tasting and judging of the junior division starting at 6 p.m., followed by tasting and judging of the senior division.

The contest is open to the public.ย  The public will have the opportunity to sample the soups and be part of the event.ย  Soups will be grouped in six categories and will be judged by expert chefs, local celebrities, and community leaders.ย  A Peopleโ€™s Choice Award will also be chosen by the public. House soups will be provided by the Forrest Centerโ€™s Culinary Arts program to allow visitors to make a meal of the event.

Admission tickets are $6.00 per adult, $3.00 per student, and free for children under four years old.ย  This cost includes admission to the contest and sampling of the soups.

The contest is open to the first 20 individuals or teams (up to three people) that register.ย  Contestants will have use of the facility and will have access to necessary equipment, but must provide their own ingredients

The Forrest Centerโ€™s Graphic Communications program may produce a Forrest Center Soup Cook-off Cookbook.ย  If contestants want to be included in the cookbook, they must provide a copy of their recipe prior to the event.ย  Inclusion is optional.

Sponsorship is available to businesses and organizations.ย  Sponsors will be given free passes to the event and will be recognized during the event.
