WALDORF, Md. — Firefighters brought an early-morning house fire under control Monday after a caller reported that a heater left on in a bedroom had caught fire.

The blaze was reported at 6:56 a.m. Dec. 1, 2025 in the 9900 block of Bunker Hill Road. The caller told 911 that a heater left on in a daughter’s room had ignited and that one dog remained in the home.

Multiple fire and rescue companies were dispatched and the call was upgraded to a working fire after crews reported flames showing on arrival. Two hose lines were stretched into the residence for an interior attack while other crews set up vertical ventilation to clear smoke from the home.

A primary search of the residence came back negative for occupants. A dog was reported to be inside, but the animal’s condition was not immediately available.

Water supply was quickly established at the scene, allowing command to return tankers while crews knocked down hot spots, particularly along the rear of the home, and continued overhaul.

One man experiencing trouble breathing was treated at the scene.

The Red Cross was called to assist three adults displaced by the fire.

Crews remained on scene for about an hour after the initial call to ventilate the building and make sure the fire was fully out.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
