Annapolis, MD – On Friday, February 10th Delegate David Vogt introduced House Bill 1275, State Government – Department of Veterans Affairs – Veterans’ Services Specialists. Veteran’s Bill – HB1275
This bill is requiring units of State government to designate an employee of the unit as a veterans’ services specialist to coordinate services with the director of the Veterans Outreach and Advocacy Program in the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs and attend specified training to provide the Department of Veterans Affairs with specified information, and to post specified information on the unit’s Web site; requiring the Department to coordinate specified meetings and submit a specified report; etc.
This bill was developed in direct correlation with the Maryland Veteran’s Affairs. It focuses the efforts in all Maryland’s state agencies so that Maryland can be more efficient and effective in the service of our Maryland Veterans. When asked about the bill Delegate Vogt had this to say, “We need to do a better job of taking care of our veteran’s nationwide and we can set that example right here in Maryland.”
In Maryland, regional resource coordinators provide assistance to veterans and their families to support a healthy transition to civilian life. There is more that can be done to help focus efforts onto helping our state’s veterans. “I have continued to wear my combat boots in Annapolis because my service here is a continuation of my time serving in the Marine Corps” Delegate explained. “Ensuring that our Veterans are cared for properly on every level will pay dividends in our communities and families.”
This bill will be heard in front of the Health and Government Operations Committee at 1:00 pm, Monday, March 13, 2017. If you would like to submit letters in support and help our veteran’s, please email Delegate Vogt’s Office at david.vogt@house.state.md.us.
