St. Maryโs City, MD. โ St. Maryโs College of Marylandโs Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nationโs first academic honor society, awarded book prizes to five local high school scholars on November 14. The annual event is in its twenty-first year and recognizes academic achievement by a high school senior from each of the countyโs five high schools.
Katy Arnett, professor of educational studies and president of the Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, hosted the award ceremony. Laraine Glidden, distinguished professor emerita of psychology and human development, presented the awards. Students and their families as well as high school honor society advisers and principals were invited to the ceremony, where students each were presented with two books selected by Glidden on topics related to their proposed career paths.
St. Maryโs College of Maryland is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education through 2024-2025. St. Maryโs College, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Approximately 1,600 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Maryโs River in Southern Maryland.
