ANNAPOLIS, Md. โ Maryland Governor Larry Hogan thanked the five UMMS frontline Healthcare workers who were the first recipients of the new COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer.
The first UMMS employee to receive the vaccine was Shawn Hendricks, MSN, RN. The 50-year-old serves as Nursing Director of Medicine, Cardiac Services and the TeleSitter Program at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
The historic undertaking to vaccinate Marylanders against COVID-19 is now underway,โ said Governor Hogan. โI had the opportunity to personally thank these frontline healthcare workers for agreeing to be the first recipients of the vaccine, and hearing some of their experiences throughout the pandemic. This is an exciting day for the State of Maryland, and hopefully one we will look back on as the beginning of the end of this pandemic.โ
The other four workers vaccinated were:
- Michael Winters, MD, MBA, FACEP, FAAEM. Winters is a Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Vice Chair for Clinical and Administrative Affairs for UMSOMโs Department of Emergency Medicine
- Sharon Henry, MD. Dr. Henry is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and is Director of the Division of Wound Healing and Metabolism at UMMCโs R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.ย
- Daisy Solares, RRT. Solares is a respiratory therapist at the UMMC Downtown Campus.
- William Thomas. Thomas is a 25-year employee working in Environmental Services at the UMMC Midtown Campus.
Marylandโs COVID-19 vaccination plan begins with Phase 1A, which will focus on frontline healthcare workers, residents and staff of long-term care facilities, and first responders.
