LA PLATA, Md. — A local Eagle Scout candidate has recently placed a U.S. Flag Retirement Box inside the public lobby of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office’s District 1 station, located at 6855 Crain Highway, giving residents a dignified way to retire worn or damaged American flags.
Lucas Alarie, a rising junior at La Plata High School and senior patrol leader of Boy Scout Troop 1321, proposed the idea as part of his Eagle Scout service project. He worked with the sheriff’s office community organizer to coordinate the installation, and his father, Ryan Alarie, provided support throughout the process.
The clearly labeled red box, seen prominently in the image alongside sheriff’s office personnel, marks a visible addition to the station’s lobby. The District 1 station is open 24 hours a day, ensuring community members can access the box at any time.
The sheriff’s office praised the project as a patriotic and meaningful service to the community.
