Hotel Handcuff: Lexington Park Man Accused Of Assaulting Deputies During Warrant Service At La Quinta Inn

CALIFORNIA, Md. — A routine warrant service at a local hotel turned violent when a Lexington Park man allegedly assaulted deputies, prompting multiple charges and a forthcoming trial.

According to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office (SMCSO), Jamarr Sherman Mackall, 35, of Lexington Park, was wanted on warrants stemming from an assault that occurred March 11, 2026. Deputies responded to the La Quinta Inn in California, Maryland, on March 14, 2026, to serve the warrant.

Police reports indicate that Mackall initially cooperated but quickly became hostile, allegedly making threats to assault law enforcement officers. When deputies attempted to place him in handcuffs, Mackall allegedly assaulted deputies, and a brief physical struggle ensued. Mackall was detained and taken into custody.

Charging documents show that, in addition to the original charges of first-degree assault and second-degree assault that prompted the warrant, Mackall was also charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest following the March 14 incident. Following his arrest, he was released on recognizance.

Court records indicate Mackall is scheduled for trial on the first-degree and second-degree assault charges on April 21, 2026, while the additional charges stemming from the March 14 arrest are scheduled for trial on April 28, 2026. In Maryland, first-degree assault carries a maximum sentence of up to 25 years in prison, second-degree assault up to 10 years, and assault on a law enforcement officer up to 10 years, with fines possible for each charge if convicted.
