WASHINGTON – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement yesterday regarding President Donald J. Trump’s executive orders regarding federal workers:
“An efficient, effective federal government depends on workers hired on the basis of merit, not political loyalty. That principle has aways been the foundation of our civil service. President Trump’s executive order reinstating ‘Schedule F’ threatens to undermine that merit-based system by making thousands of federal employees vulnerable to removal at the President’s whim. He also issued a memorandum undermining protections for members of the Senior Executive Service, who provide vital leadership and institutional knowledge to their agencies.
“Our federal employees are some of our nation’s most principled, talented, and hardworking people who serve the American people every day – no matter who sits in the Oval Office. I would know; I represent 80,000 of them in Maryland’s Fifth District. They ensure the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the products we use are safe. They enforce our laws. They provide vital services to the American people. Crucially, they deserve our respect, and the American people deserve a civil service beholden to the Constitution, not a political spoils system.
“President Trump’s executive order is just one of many ways he plans to undermine not only our federal workers but also our federal government’s ability to deliver results for the American people. Just as I have throughout my time in Congress, I will continue to stand up for our federal employees and stand against efforts to harass them through Schedule F, the Holman Rule, and other tactics.”

I believe they need to GO to work just like anyone else
Hoyer needs to resign he’s been in office TOO LONG TERM LIMITS FOR SENATE & CONGRESS
👏🏻
I hate to tell you, its the voters, not the candidates that don’t observe term limits The term does end, every 2 years. No, terms are not on the ballot and maybe they should be.
Having been in federal government I saw first hand individuals who should have been fired and would have been in the private sector but who were protected because they were federal employees. There are good hard working employees and then there are the lazy ones just drawing a pay check.
Oh great, Hoyer is too senile to run again also. We really need yearly cognitive tests for office.
You didn’t support us when the government shutdown many years ago and I didn’t get a paycheck for 5 weeks. I had to sign a paper that if I worked during that time I would be fired. I am a 30 year retired federal civilian from Pax River. Oh and I’m on the new retirement system (FERS) and not the old retirement system. So my retirement check is basically social security. Where was your loyalty and support when all that happened? You fully supported both. And by the way, I am not a Republican, so this is not political.
Hey, wasn’t reinstating Schedule F one of the first steps of that Project 2025 thing that everyone said wasn’t real?
Hoyer,, Your job is done.
It’s time for you to get out.
Out with the old and in with fresh minds.
You have had your time,,
Your pocket is deep in the same old plan that we voted not to have again.
Get off our change.
It’s over and you need to retire.
Good night my long over done with your speech.
“An efficient, effective federal government depends on workers hired on the basis of merit”
Hey Steny, is that specified in your (former, Ha! Ha!) “DEI” programs?
Following party line, as usual. He didn’t care when Biden forced ten’s of thousands of federal employees out of their careers and jobs in 2021 with an executive order.
Oh, I was hoping he was announcing retirement.
Step aside Congressman, you are part of the problem.
i guess we have to look schedule f up. Maryland is not like the rest of the country.
It’s time for you to leave. It’s time to cut government waste.
Steny, try doing your job. Work with the President to make a stronger country, not work against him and cause problems. You are job like Joe, too old, step aside.
It really upsets out of state Congress people and trump to see so many black people with good paying job, nice homes, and nice vehicles. If he could take it away and make them live poor southern lives he would. Some can see all of this very clearly and others don’t get it and never will.
DEI ≠ “hired on the basis of merit”
Make up your mind, then RETIRE!
PLEASE RETIRE AND GO TO DELAWARE AND JOIN OLE SLEEPY JOE
Term Limits
We need term limits because of politicians like Steny.
Well, I guess they can always learn to code! Hoyer is a dangerous combination of being a shill for the progressives’ failed policies and an obstructionist for free-market common sense. C’mon Maryland, vote for the policies that will make us a better place to live, not the party.
