Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) released the following statement after the President Wednesday morning signed H.R. 3221, the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008:

ย

โ€œThe housing bill signed [Wednesday] by the President is the most comprehensive action taken yet to stem the surge of foreclosures and minimize losses to homeowners and everyone impacted by the slumping housing market. Beyond an assistance and stabilization measure, this legislation is a stimulus to boost the economy, which has been badly bruised by the housing crisis and related credit crunch. I commend Secretary Paulson, Chairman Frank and Chairman Dodd for their skilled stewardship of this legislation, and look forward to continuing our work together as we monitor its impact and evaluate what further steps may be necessary.โ€
