CALVERT COUNTY, Md. – It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of K9 Legion, a dedicated and loyal member of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit.

Born on November 18, 2015, Legion, a Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix, joined our agency in 2017.

He was first handled by Captain Funchion from 2018–2019 and later partnered with DFC Boerum from 2019–2025. Together, they formed an exceptional team, serving our community with unwavering commitment and courage.

K9 Legion served as the agency’s full-time SWAT K9, trained in explosive detection, criminal apprehension, tracking, and article search.

His service and skill played a vital role in ensuring the safety of our deputies and the citizens of Calvert County.

When not on duty, Legion loved long walks and spending time with his family who loved him deeply. His loyalty, bravery, and playful spirit will never be forgotten.

Thank you, K9 Legion, for your years of devoted service. Rest easy, good boy.

  1. RIP, you will be missed. We need more like you. I think every officer should have a K9.
