WALDORF, Md. – An unfortunate incident occurred at the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs stadium at 11765 Linus Drive resulting in multiple injuries to children last night. A 911 caller reported that a bouncy house was lifted and flipped by a sudden gust of wind, causing children to fall approximately 15 feet onto the field.

Emergency services were dispatched immediately. Two medical helicopters were requested due to the severity of the injuries. One child, in critical condition, was flown to Children’s National Hospital by Trooper 2. Another child, also in critical but non-life-threatening condition, was transported to the same hospital by Trooper 7. Other injured children received on-site treatment from EMS.

The incident occurred during an event at the stadium. By the time our stringer arrived, the lights were off, and three staff members present declined to comment. The incident reportedly happened around 9:30 p.m., with first responders arriving shortly after.

An athlete on the field during the incident, who requested anonymity, provided a statement:

“A gust of wind did take the bouncy house and ripped the stakes out and blew it onto the field. I think there were two kids inside; we haven’t been told how they are yet. We all saw itโ€”everyone that was there.”

The athlete noted that the medevac helicopter had already departed by 11:15 p.m. when he spoke with us.

We are currently seeking further information and will provide updates as they become available. Our thoughts are with the injured children and their families during this difficult time.

    1. Or, maybe if the parents were busy, I don’t know, parenting? They wouldn’t have let their kids be in some contraption a glorified carnie set up when the wind started picking up?

      1. I don’t feel like any children should have been in a bouncy house at 9:00 p.m.. but prayers are needed for my family in which one of the children was five and has succumbed to his injuries.

      2. it was not a carnie. it was most likely that young boy who is always managing the bounce house. I know I would see the same person whenever we went. it is not his fault. they have walkie talkies. whoever is in charge or the playground should have monitored the weather. not that young lads job.

prayers to the family of Declan. I just cannot imagine this and you will be in my prayers. stay strong.

for those making nasty parenting comments how dare you. it is the summertime and who would have thought the wind could cause something that was secured into air.

    2. Why? It was an unfortunate accident. It wasnโ€™t called a โ€œon purposeโ€. Prayers and fast healing for all.

  1. I worked at a place that rented out bouncy houses. We were all trained to stake them down to the ground and we trained every person that rented them.
