Chesapeake Beach, MD – An alleged lurid encounter that occurred in a child’s bedroom back in February has led to the indictment on sex abuse charges for a Calvert County man, court records reported.
The defendant, identified in court documents as Gregory Dionell Franklin, 20 of Chesapeake Beach, was indicted in Calvert County Circuit Court March 21. The three-count indictment charges Franklin with sex abuse of a minor, second-degree sex offense and third-degree sex offense. All of the charges are felonies.
The victim was a female under the age of 10. Court records chronicle the alleged offense on the child, which Franklin reportedly performed orally.
According to the court system’s statement of probable cause, the alleged incident occurred Feb. 18 shortly before 7 a.m. Deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office were called to the home. As the 911 call was being placed Franklin fled the residence on foot. He was located on Chesapeake Beach Road, east of Cox Road by F/Sgt. R. McCourt. According to court documents, McCourt asked Franklin “if he was involved in an altercation” at the residence.
“I know I am going to jail, I made a mistake,” Franklin told McCourt. During a subsequent interview at the sheriff’s office, Franklin described his actions in the child’s bedroom to McCourt and Detective R. Cress. “Franklin was shaking and would spontaneously utter ‘I messed up, I am going to jail,’ ” Detective Meggan Quinn stated in court documents.
Franklin was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center.
The victim was taken to Baltimore Shock Trauma for a Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE).
According to court documents, a pretrial hearing regarding the case is tentatively scheduled for May 2 and a plea hearing for June 6. A criminal jury trial is tentatively scheduled for early July.
