What does it take to get over a painful and abusive adolescence; to become a survivor instead of a victim?
For its latest Meet the Author series, Calvert Library is pleased to host Hilda Thomasine Wren, the local author of A Plain Brown Wren: A Spiritual Journey of a Survivor of Childhood Sexual Abuse, a deeply honest and eloquent memoir of her own frightening childhood and the strength to become whole again. Wren, an Owings resident, graduated from All-Faith Seminary International and currently serves as an interfaith minister, a hospital chaplain and a victim’s advocate.
“I initially wrote my story as a way to heal,” Wren says in the introduction to A Plain Brown Wren. “Now, I want to tell it to help others in their healing process.”
A reception featuring Wren will be held at the Calvert Library Prince Frederick on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. No registration is necessary. Her books will be available for sale and signing at $20 per book. For more information, call Robyn Truslow at (410) 535-0291.
