Lothian, MD – Authorities in Anne Arundel County reported two juveniles have been placed in a detention facility following an incident that occurred Sunday, Nov. 8 in the south county town of Lothian, a short distance from the Calvert County line.

According to an Anne Arundel County Police Department press release, shortly before 3 p.m. officers responded to Southern Maryland Boulevard (Route 4) for a possible abduction. “A citizen called 911 and reported that he had two young children with him, they were now safe, but they had possibly been abducted by several teenagers,” the press release stated.

Police investigating the incident learned that a 9-year-old male and an 8-year-old female were taken by force from a playground at a mobile home park to a nearby barn.

“Officers learned that the suspects carried and forced the two victims into the barn while displaying a knife toward them,” the press release stated. “Once in the barn the suspects tied up the young female victim’s hands and feet with rope. The suspects were threatening to burn the victims and were waving a knife at both of them. The suspects fled, leaving the victims tied up in the barn, when they heard several neighborhood juveniles looking for the victims. The victims were located in the barn by the neighborhood kids and an adult witness.”

According to police, local fire department personnel responded to the scene to check both victims for injuries. The victims and witnesses identified the suspects who were arrested at their home a short time later. Police have only identified the suspects as a 12-year-old white male and a 14-year-old white male. The Department of Juvenile Services also responded to the scene, placing the two suspects in a juvenile facility. Both face abduction charges.
