LA PLATA, Md. — Ka’Ribbean Fire has closed its La Plata storefront after five years, but fans of the restaurant’s Caribbean and Southern-inspired food do not have to go without their favorite dishes.
The restaurant announced that it is relocating from its longtime home at 13 Shining Willow Way because of unforeseen circumstances. Although a new storefront address has not yet been released, Ka’Ribbean Fire appears to be keeping the kitchen going through its food truck.
Ka’Ribbean Fire built a loyal following during its five years in La Plata, becoming known for Caribbean flavors mixed with Southern soul food favorites.
Its menu has included jerk chicken, smoked oxtails, rasta pasta, fried whiting, pork chops, macaroni and cheese, yams, rice and peas, cabbage and several varieties of egg rolls.
The family-run business has also provided catering for celebrations, community gatherings and other events throughout the region.
While the closure marks the end of its time at the Shining Willow Way location, the restaurant has indicated that it plans to relocate rather than close permanently.
Food Truck Keeps The Flavor Going
In a May 15 Facebook post, the owner said Ka’Ribbean Fire’s food truck would be permanently based in Prince George’s County.
The truck has recently been serving customers at Forestville Plaza, located at 7702 Marlboro Pike in Forestville — not too far away for Southern Maryland customers craving jerk chicken, rasta pasta or smoked wings.
The Forestville truck menu has featured many familiar dishes, including rasta fries, jerk chicken egg rolls, crab cake egg rolls, fried whiting, fried pork chops, smoked wings and classic side dishes.
Food truck hours and locations may vary, and service may end once the day’s food sells out. Customers should check Ka’Ribbean Fire’s official social media pages before making the trip.
