LA PLATA, Md. โ€” A La Plata crash in July 2025 left two people dead and a third hospitalized after a high-impact, head-on collision along Charles Street (MD Route 6) in La Plata Saturday evening.

Authorities responded around 7:19 PM on July 26 to the 9900 block of Charles Street following multiple 911 calls reporting a two-vehicle crash with occupants trapped. Emergency units from La Plata Volunteer Fire Department, Charles County Department of Emergency Services, and Maryland State Police converged on the scene.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a black 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis containing three women โ€” all reportedly from Washington, DC and Seat Pleasant, Maryland. Two of the women, ages 29 and 31, were pronounced dead at the scene. The third woman, 31 years old, was extricated and flown by Trooper 2 to UM Capital Region Medical Center, where she remains in stable condition.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a white 2021 Infiniti SUV traveling eastbound on Charles Street crossed the center line and struck the Mercury sedan head-on. The driver of the Infiniti, identified as Cory Jermaine Kane, 46, of District Heights, reportedly refused medical treatment on scene and was taken into custody by La Plata Police.

Police indicated that alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the La Plata crash July 2025.

Charles Street was shut down between La Plata Road and Prince Charles Drive for several hours.

  1. I checked Google Earth ground , I’m seeing 45 mph posted speed limits ,,
I’ll venture to say higher speeds and a lack of seat belts were as well contributing factors aside from what has been already noted..
This is ” one ” to learn by example ..
. dont repeat . they learned the hard way will you?

  2. Charles County is still the alcohol consumption destination for people from DC/PG I see.
