LA PLATA, Md. — The EatWell DC restaurant group which includes The Bird, The Pig, Grillfish, Commissary and Logan Tavern, announces its newest endeavor, The Charles – Farm Table & Public House, expected opening October 1.

The Charles replaces the nearly four-decades-old Casey Jones, an iconic downtown La Plata restaurant and bar known for among other things, its St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Casey Jones will close in early August.

The Charles will be a neighborhood gathering place located at 417 Charles Street in La Plata, Maryland, very close to the group’s own EatWell Natural Farm where much of the produce that’s served by the entire restaurant group is grown. EatWell DC’s first restaurant in Maryland features a menu of “Greatest Hits” from the group’s existing restaurants while also highlighting the traditions of southern Maryland. Expect The Bird’s delicious Duck Meatballs, Commissary’s coveted Kung Pao Brussel Sprouts,  Grillfish’s popular Ginger Calamari, The Pig’s appetizing Pork Buns, Logan Tavern’s signature Burgers, Soft Shell Crabs (when in season), local Oysters, Rockfish and much more.

Leading culinary efforts at The Charles is Chef Wil Crutchley, a recent transplant from Singapore and alumni of noted NYC kitchens Le Bernardin, Le Cirque, and Payard Bakery. Chef Wil hails from the Outer Banks and will bring his Tidewater sensibilities to the menu. Mark Barry will serve as The Charles’ General Manager and has been a member of the EatWell family for the past six years. Mark brings his passion for restaurants, excellence in service and many years of training experience to the position. The hope is to retain all present Casey Jones staff.

“We couldn’t pass up the opportunity of this amazing space and to become a greater part of the La Plata community. With our farm being so close, we look forward to integrating the two concepts and serving the people of La Plata and all of Charles County for many years to come,” says David Winer, Principal of EatWell DC.

The restaurant will receive a complete facelift in the “modern farmhouse” style, while paying respect to the past. The sprawling space boasts more than 300 seats including an enclosed porch and a covered terrace as well as two bars. Two private dining areas allow for sit-down gatherings both intimate and large, with private space for parties of 10-60 people. There’s also parking for 125 cars.

The Charles is located at 417 Charles Street, La Plata, Maryland. At opening, which is anticipated to be October 1, hours of operation will be: Sunday-Thursday, 4pm-10pm, Friday and Saturday, 4pm-midnight, and happy hour every day from 4pm-6pm. Shortly after, weekend brunch (Sat & Sun), starting at 10am, and weekday lunch, starting at 11am, will be served
