(Bridgeport, CT. June 29th 2015) —-Southern Maryland came into the game having scored first in four straight games, and that trend continued here tonight.  Even with scoring first, Bridgeport rallied late and picked up the 7-6 victory in game one of the five game series.

Southern Maryland scored two runs in the top of the third.  Jovan Rosa led things off with a double.  Jamar Walton then singled to put runners at the corners.  The hot hitting Casey Frawley was up next and scored Jovan Rosa to make it 1-0.  Two batters later, with a runner at every base, Zach Wilson came to the plate, and hit a sacrifice fly to left and deep enough to score Jamar Walton to make it 2-0.  Casey Frawley then singled again in the top of the fourth to score another run to put Southern Maryland up 3-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Bridgeport cracked the scoreboard.  Following a Josh Prince double, and Wellington Dotel single, Jonathan Galvez walked to load the bases.  Jobduan Morales came to the plate, and reached base on the error by Jake Opitz to score Prince to make it 3-1.

Southern Maryland put themselves at arm’s length by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth.  With two outs, Jamar Walton singled, followed by a Casey Frawley single to put runners at first and third.  Fred Lewis then doubled to score Walton and Frawley.  Fred then advanced home to score the third run of the inning on an error by the catcher Morales to make a 6-1 ballgame.

Bridgeport rallied in the bottom of the seventh to score six runs.  Andres Rodriguez led things off with a walk, followed by a Matt Burns single.  The next hitter Matt Wessinger doubled to score Rodriguez, and Burns.  After a James Simmons strikeout, Cody Eppley came out of the bullpen for Southern Maryland.  Josh Prince singled to put two runners on base.  Wellington Dotel banged out a single to score Wessinger.  The big blow came when the next hitter John Alonso drove a three run homerun over the wall to make it a 7-6 ballgame.

Southern Maryland was held scoreless for the final two innings, going on to lose 7-6.  Bridgeport out hit the Blue Crabs 10-9, and received three RBIs from John Alonso, while also getting two runs batted in from Matt Wessinger.  The combination of Carson, Draxton, and Mincey pitched three scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Bridgeport.

Game two of the five game series will commence tomorrow evening at 7:05 P.M.  RHP Chien-Ming Wang (1-0, 2.08) will make his second start of the season for Southern Maryland, while LHP Mike Antonini (4-5, 2.79) will throw for Bridgeport.
