PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Two women from Leonardtown are facing multiple misdemeanor charges after a shoplifting attempt at a Prince Frederick Walmart unraveled into a narcotics bust on June 27, 2025. Court records indicate that both women were arrested following a traffic-stop-style confrontation and subsequent searches that turned up suspected crack cocaine, fentanyl, Xanax and paraphernalia.
According to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Walmart on North Solomons Island Road just after asset protection staff reported two women concealing items in a pink bag while browsing the store. Officers arrived before the suspects exited the building and escorted them back inside, where they continued to act suspiciously and whisper to each other, per the statement of probable cause.
One of the women, later identified as 35-year-old Kelly Greenan, allegedly dropped a glass pipe with burn marks as she was questioned. Greenan, who initially denied possessing any other contraband, was later found to have a blue purse containing a suspected crack cocaine capsule. Her companion, identified as 38-year-old Lauren Brown, initially gave a false name but was ultimately recognized through active warrants in other jurisdictions.
Inside Brown’s black shoulder bag, deputies located multiple items believed to be illegal narcotics. The inventory included a pink purse with a blue capsule of suspected crack cocaine; a labeled pouch containing four glass pipes; a jar with four blue capsules believed to be cocaine; six capsules suspected to contain fentanyl; a container with blue pills thought to be Xanax; and a yellow capsule with an unidentified brown substance. Brown also carried a pair of scissors she admitted were used to “cut” controlled substances.
Walmart staff scanned the stolen items, which totaled over $300 in clothing, toiletries and batteries, and returned them to inventory. Both women were placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center.
Greenan faces three misdemeanor charges: theft under $1,500, CDS possession not cannabis, and possession of paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, she could face up to three years in jail and $6,500 in fines. Brown faces five charges, including three counts of CDS possession not cannabis, one count of possession of paraphernalia, and the same theft charge. Her potential maximum sentence exceeds five years of incarceration and over $7,500 in fines.
Both women were scheduled for trial officer hearings on July 31 in Calvert District Court. Greenan was released on her own recognizance, while Brown was granted a $1,000 unsecured personal bond.
