LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A 35-year-old Leonardtown man is being held without bond after he was arrested in connection with a series of thefts that deputies said culminated in the theft of two Sony PlayStation 5 consoles from the Walmart in California, Md.

The latest incident occurred on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025. According to the statement of probable cause, a Walmart loss prevention officer reported seeing a man, later identified as Robert James Grinder, on surveillance footage using a key to unlock the glass case in the gaming section. The footage allegedly shows Grinder grabbing two PS5 Pro consoles, valued at $699 each, placing them in his cart, and leaving the store with the items concealed in a blue Walmart bag for a total loss of $1,398.

A crime analyst recognized Grinder as a suspect in other recent theft cases, and he was positively identified and arrested.

Charging documents also link Grinder to two earlier thefts from the ACE Hardware in Leonardtown. On July 25, he allegedly $448 worth of Milwaukee tools. In another case on July 17, deputies said he was identified on surveillance footage taking an impact wrench and batteries. In that incident, investigators said a distinctive tattoo on his left arm helped them confirm his identity.

Across the three separate incidents, Grinder is facing three misdemeanor counts of Theft: $100 to under $1,500. Each count carries a maximum penalty of up to six months in jail and a $500 fine. Following a bail review hearing before Judge James Tanavage on August 8, 2025, Grinder is being held at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center without bond. He has court dates scheduled throughout September.
