LEXINGTON PARK, Md., โ€” Authorities are investigating a Lexington Park carbon monoxide death that left one person dead and several others hospitalized following a hazardous materials emergency early Saturday morning.

Deputies from the St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office responded just before 4:00 a.m. on May 17 to the 22000 block of Ventura Way to assist fire and EMS crews with a reported medical emergency and gas leak.

Upon arrival, first responders detected high levels of carbon monoxide inside the home. Two adults were found inside the residence. One was transported to a nearby hospital, while the second was located unresponsive. EMS and deputies initiated CPR and other life-saving efforts, but the victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Multiple first responders were also exposed to carbon monoxide during the evacuation and required transport to local hospitals for treatment and observation.

The St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office is actively investigating the incident.
