Lexington Park Man Accused Of Charging At Neighbor With Knife Despite Peace Order

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Lexington Park man is facing first-degree assault and peace order violation charges after authorities say he armed himself with a knife and charged at a neighbor during a dispute on Three Notch Road.

Ronald Levay Baldwin, 58, was charged following an Aug. 16 incident in the 21300 block of Three Notch Road.

According to charging documents, a St. Mary’s County sheriff’s deputy responded around 8:36 p.m. for a reported assault and violation of a peace order.

The complainant told authorities he had been walking his dog along a shared driveway when he saw Baldwin standing in the middle of the driveway.

He said Baldwin walked toward his residence, retrieved a knife and then charged toward him while holding the weapon and yelling.

The complainant told deputies he feared for his life and instructed his dog to “get him.” Baldwin then allegedly ran back toward his property, dropped the knife and went inside the residence before leaving the area prior to deputies’ arrival.

The complainant later showed deputies where the confrontation occurred.

Authorities recovered a folding knife with a black-and-red handle in the grass near the area where the complainant said it had been dropped.

Court records referenced in the charging documents also show an active peace order had been issued against Baldwin that prohibited him from threatening, harassing or contacting the complainant.

Baldwin was later located at another residence, denied the allegations and was arrested.

He is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and failure to comply with a peace order.

Baldwin was initially held without bond following his arrest.

At an Aug. 18 bond review, Judge James Tanavage released him on his own recognizance.

A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 15 in St. Mary’s District Court.
