GREAT MILLS, Md. — A Lexington Park man is facing multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from law enforcement on a dirt bike, then being found in possession of a prohibited firearm, live ammunition and a controlled substance, according to charging documents filed in St. Mary’s County District Court.
Deputies say 38-year-old Daniel Brian Evans was first spotted around 6:21 p.m. on May 11, 2025, operating an unregistered dirt bike on Point Lookout Road near Hermanville Road. Law enforcement recognized the suspect from prior contacts and noted he had an active warrant for his arrest. As a deputy attempted a traffic stop, Evans reportedly fled off-road into a field near Hattons Rest Lane.
Approximately one hour later, a deputy spotted an unoccupied red 2002 Ford F-150 parked on the shoulder of Point Lookout Road and recognized it from previous encounters. The registered owner told law enforcement she was unaware of the vehicle’s location and confirmed a rifle visible in the backseat belonged to Evans. The vehicle was towed, and during an inventory search, deputies located the rifle, three 7.62 mm live rounds and several items bearing Evans’ name.
Records confirmed Evans is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to prior convictions for second-degree assault in 2006, 2012 and 2021 — each involving more than two years of incarceration.
Later that evening, Evans contacted emergency dispatch seeking to speak with an officer. Deputies located and arrested him around 8:28 p.m. in the parking lot of a Great Mills business. During a search, deputies found a package of Suboxone, a Schedule III controlled dangerous substance. Though Evans stated he had a prescription, the medication was not in a labeled container, as required by law.
Evans was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center and served his outstanding warrant along with eight traffic citations. He was additionally charged with illegal possession of a regulated firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of a non-cannabis controlled dangerous substance.
Each firearm and ammunition offense carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. The CDS possession charge carries a potential sentence of up to four years in jail and/or a $25,000 fine.
Evans is being held without bond. A trial is scheduled for June 26, 2025, in Courtroom 2 of St. Mary’s District Court. The case remains open.
