Despite the gloomy weather forecast, Lexington Park Elementary School was beaming with the light of proud voters this morning. Donning umbrellas and other rain gear, hundreds turned out in the wee morning hours to exercise their right to vote.

A registered Independent wishing to be known only as Alonzo voted for Obama this morning. Having moved to the county three years ago, Alonzo enjoyed the ease of voting in a lesser populated area.

Leandria Charleston voted for the first time this morning with her mother, Roberta Lockett, by her side. Charleston said she enjoyed the ease with which she was able to vote.

Lockett, on the other hand, said she noticed more of a turnout this year. “Last year I walked straight in and came right back out.”

Vanna White, a registered Democrat, (and yes that is her real name) continued the trend and voted Obama this morning with ease. “It was faster than I thought it was going to be and everyone was really nice,” said White. “I didn’t mind coming at all.”ย

White added she was in support of the ever-lingering question of slot machines, so long as the revenues from the business went directly to funding education.

A single interviewee who wishes to remain unnamed proudly stated that he cast his vote for the McCain, Palin ticket.

“I wasn’t sure about Obama and Biden,” the man stated. “They have some pretty good stances I just didn’t feel comfortable with them.”

When asked about the local race, the man said he stuck with Steny Hoyer for District 5. “I’ve been voting for Hoyer a long time and he’s done great for this district,” he explained.

On a personal note, I arrived at Lexington Park Elementary School early this morning and waited in line for about 20 minutes before I received my little sticker that proudly exclaims, “I voted.”

If you have not received your sticker, there’s still time to cast your vote. Every vote counts.
