LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Lexington Park woman was charged after a traffic stop led to the discovery of suspected fentanyl, suspected crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Erin Neveal Stokes, 34, of Lexington Park, is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
The stop happened on May 13, 2026, in the area of Midway Drive and Saratoga Drive in Lexington Park. Charging documents state a dark-colored 2025 Hyundai Elantra was stopped after it came to rest almost an entire car length beyond the white stop line, leaving part of the vehicle in the travel portion of Midway Drive.
The vehicle later stopped near Yorktown Road. During contact with the occupants, authorities identified Stokes as the driver.
While speaking with the occupants, authorities observed multiple balled-up pieces of burnt copper Brillo in plain view in the front passenger-side door handle. The material was suspected of containing crack cocaine residue and was described as consistent with filter material commonly used in smoking devices.
Both occupants were removed from the vehicle for a probable cause search. After Stokes exited, authorities found a folded $1 bill on the front seat directly where she had been sitting. Inside the folded bill was a white powder substance suspected to be fentanyl.
Beside the folded bill, authorities also found a loose white rock-like substance suspected to be crack cocaine and a glass smoking device containing burnt residue. Charging documents state the items were located on the seat directly beneath where Stokes had been seated.
Stokes was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Court records show bail was set at a $1,500 unsecured personal bond on May 13, 2026, and the bond was posted.
Under Maryland law, possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis carries up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $5,000 for a first conviction. Possession of drug paraphernalia carries a maximum fine of $500. Combined, the listed charges carry up to two years in jail and up to $10,500 in fines.
A hearing is set for June 30, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court.
