LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Lexington Park woman is facing multiple theft charges after authorities say she repeatedly stole items from a grocery store over several weeks in St. Mary’s County, according to court records.
Rebecca Elizabeth Banks, 50, of Lexington Park, was charged by criminal summons following an investigation into a series of thefts reported at Weis Markets on Great Mills Road.
According to charging documents, the incidents occurred between March 6 and March 30, 2026, at the store located in the 21000 block of Great Mills Road.
Investigators allege Banks entered the store on multiple occasions, selected grocery items, and proceeded through self-checkout without paying for all merchandise before leaving the store.
Store personnel documented several separate incidents, with reported losses including $16.99, $12.97, $56.29, $7.94, $9.87, and $10.98 in merchandise across different dates.
Authorities said surveillance footage and prior encounters helped confirm Banks’ identity during the investigation.
Banks is charged with six counts of theft less than $100 and one count of theft scheme between $100 and $1,500.
She was issued a criminal summons on April 23, 2026, rather than being arrested.
Under Maryland law, theft less than $100 carries a maximum penalty of up to 90 days in jail and a fine of up to $500. Theft scheme between $100 and $1,500 carries a potential penalty of up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $500.
A preliminary inquiry hearing is set for June 5, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court.
