Edgewater, MD – A young couple from St. Mary’s County was killed in a three-vehicle collision in Anne Arundel County, police reported. The crash occurred late Sunday afternoon, Feb. 14 on Route 2 (Solomons Island Road) near Swallow Lane in Edgewater.

According to report from the Anne Arundel County Police Department (AACPD), witnesses reported a 2002 Toyota Camry was northbound when it crossed the centerline and struck a southbound Honda Civic head-on in the vicinity of the shoulder.  A Ford Crown Victoria, also southbound just behind the Honda, then struck both vehicles in the roadway causing the Honda to overturn. The incident occurred around 4:26 p.m., police reported.

The driver of the Honda—identified as Daniel Brian Amos, 21 of California—was pronounced dead at the scene by fire department personnel. A passenger in the Honda—identified as Kayla Nicole Amos, 20 also of California—was flown to shock trauma in Baltimore. On Monday morning, Feb. 15, Kayla Amos died from injuries sustained in the crash, police reported.

The driver of the Toyota—identified as Lauren Renee Scott, 27 of Edgewater—sustained serious injuries and was transported to shock trauma.

The driver of the Ford, a Delaware man, sustained minor injuries and declined treatment.

According to an AACPD report, “the preliminary cause of the crash appears to be the failure of the Toyota to remain right of center. Neither alcohol nor speed appears to be a contributing factor. Traffic Safety is handling the investigation and any charges are pending review by the State’s Attorney.”
