
LEONARDTOWN, Md. – A 51-year-old man was airlifted to hospital after accidentally shooting himself on the afternoon of June 21, 2024.
Emergency personnel responded to the incident, which took place in the 22000 block of Bluebird Court, at approximately 12:12 p.m. The severity of the man’s injuries led to a MEDEVAC being pre-launched.
On arrival, police secured the scene before crews entered the home. They found the man suffering from a single gunshot wound to his left femur. A landing zone was secured at the MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for Maryland State Police, Trooper 2, who airlifted the patient to UM Capital Region Medical Center for treatment.
According to reports, the firearm accidentally discharged as the man was taking it out of a bag. His wife and two children were in the home at the time of the incident.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge.
