At 10:42 p.m. Jan. 17, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 15900 block of Formosa Lane in the Charles County portion of Brandywine for the report of a domestic assault in progress.

Investigation revealed a 50-year-old man who lives at the residence assaulted a family member. Officer J. Long arrested the accused and transported him to the Charles County Detention Center.

As the officer escorted the man into the facility, he struck the officer in the face with his head. The accused, who was highly intoxicated, was transported to Civista Medical Center, where he was treated for his intoxication.

After he was treated, officers transported him back to the detention center. He was charged with domestic assault and assault on a police officer.

He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. The officer sustained a minor injury.

Police did not reveal the man’s name because of the domestic violence change, and doing so may compromise the victim’s identity.
