Lexington Park, MD— On April 11, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Austin Schultz responded to Lexwood Court in Lexington Park for a reported disturbance involvingย property destruction.ย
When Schultz arrived on the scene he entered the residence and made contact with Deputy Mccuen, who asked for Schultz’s assistanceย in the investigation.ย
Contact was made with the defendant who was identified as John E. Otto Jr., 22 of Lexington Park. According to charging documents, “before I (Schultz) said anything to Otto, he began arguing with the victim. Therefore, I (Schultz) requested Otto step out and talk to me.”ย
Otto began laughing at Schultz stating, “expletive no, why.” At that time, Otto was detained, however, when Schultz attempted to place Otto under arrest, “Otto violently pulled away in an apparent attempt to avoid being arrested,” according to charging documents.
The victim stated that Otto, “had requested to use her vehicle to drive to Charlotte Hall, MD. The victim told Otto he could not as she does not think he is mature enough,” according to charging documents.ย
It was brought to Schultz’s attention that Otto had caused damage to two wooden doors inside the residence. According to charging documents, “the victim had just purchased these doors becauseย Otto had recently broken them.”
Otto was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, where the was charged with second-degree assault, malicious destruction of property, resisting arrest, and obstructing and hindering.ย
Otto at this time does not have a scheduled court date. Otto faces a maximum jail sentence of 13 years and two months and/or a maximum fine of $8,000.ย
