PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Citing his experience as a teacher, coach, assistant principal in charge of athletics, and principal, the Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) Board of Education (BOC) moved to appoint Marc Watson as supervisor of health, physical education and athletics for CCPS.

Watson’s appointment was quickly seconded and approved at the BOE meeting on May 8.

Watson worked at Calvert High School from 2003 to 2019 as a teacher, coach and administrator. He was then appointed principal of Patuxent High School in 2019 after serving in an interim capacity covering a maternity leave.

School Superintendent Dr. Andraé Townsel discussed Watson’s credentials, including his education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Notre Dame of Maryland, as well as his expertise with Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association. Watson has also championed differentiated learning opportunities and staff development throughout his career while balancing administrative responsibilities like planning and budgets.

Speaking to the board and members of the public in attendance, Watson stated his admiration for student-athletes and his excitement at once again getting to be part of the Calvert community.

“I’m very much looking forward to working with all the schools in the capacity of PE and health and becoming part of the Calvert County family,” Watson said. “I am humbled by the appointment and look forward to getting started and working with everyone.”
