BALTIMORE — The Maryland Film Festival has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) as part of its Grants for Arts Projects initiative. The funding will support the festival and its associated public programming.
The NEA announced it will distribute 1,127 grants nationwide in fiscal year 2025, totaling over $31.8 million. NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, Ph.D., highlighted the importance of these awards, saying, “It is inspiring to see the wide range of creative projects taking place, including the Maryland Film Festival and its year-round programming.”
KJ Mohr, the festival’s director, expressed gratitude for the grant. “We are honored to accept this award to use in bringing together emerging filmmakers and the daring work that they create with our curious audiences. The support that we have received from the National Endowment for the Arts is fundamentally important for our communities, not only for the artists and attendees whom we serve, but as a symbol of support for the ongoing dialogue around moving image that MdFF fosters,” Mohr said.
The Maryland Film Festival, hosted annually at Baltimore’s historic SNF Parkway Theatre, is expanding its programming to serve the local creative community better. The venue plans to offer live performances, educational initiatives, new media, and gaming experiences, alongside its film-focused events. These efforts aim to foster local talent, create dynamic events, and strengthen partnerships with community organizations, ensuring the Parkway remains a cultural hub.
The festival will hold its 26th edition from Nov. 5-9, 2025, following a shift to fall dates.
