MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — Maryland International Raceway (MIR) has confirmed that it is not being acquired by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA), despite a prior announcement from IHRA that incorrectly included MIR as part of a multi-track acquisition.
In a statement released by MIR on Tuesday, the track clarified that it remains independently owned and was not consulted before IHRA’s March 7, 2025, announcement.
“The inclusion of MIR as one of the multiple racetracks being acquired by IHRA was an error,” the statement read. “MIR was not made aware of the content of the post until after it had been released. To reiterate, MIR is not selling the track to IHRA.”
MIR has formally requested that IHRA correct its statement and remove the track from its list of acquisitions.
The original IHRA announcement, which listed seven drag racing facilities under its acquisition plans, suggested that MIR would be joining the organization’s portfolio. That announcement has now been called into question, with IHRA expected to issue a clarification regarding MIR’s status.
Despite the confusion, MIR emphasized that it remains committed to working with IHRA on the return of the President’s Cup Nationals, scheduled for August 8-9, 2025. The event, a longtime fixture in professional drag racing, is set to bring Nitro Top Fuel and Funny Car action back to the track for the first time in nearly a decade.
“MIR remains enthusiastic about continuing to work with IHRA on this exciting event,” the statement continued. “We wish nothing but the best for IHRA in its endeavors, as we do for everyone involved in our beloved sport of drag racing.”
IHRA has yet to issue a public correction regarding the matter, but as of Tuesday, Maryland International Raceway remains independently owned and not part of any IHRA acquisition.

Why would the IHRA put it out if it’s not true. I saw a few another people said that the cat is out of the bag and it had been in works for a bit now? Just weird i think. Guess we will see.
