CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. — Construction is underway on a new shopping center at Charlotte Hall Station on southbound Route 5, which will soon include a unique liquor store by McKay’s.
Thomas McKay appeared before the Alcohol Beverage Board on Nov. 14, 2024, to request a Class A beer, wine, and spirits license for McKay’s Grapes, Grains & Gatherings. The store, part of the 815 Market Share, LLC, will occupy Building C at 30005 Three Notch Road. According to the H&R Retail website, the space spans 8,562 square feet.
“This is an exciting time for me because this is something that we’ve been planning for many, many years,” McKay said during the meeting.
The new venture promises to offer more than just beverages. “It’s going to feature a large selection of domestic and international wines, international and specialty cheeses and charcuteries,” McKay said. “It’s going to feature a large selection of domestic and international beers and spirits and other beverages, as well as some home goods and entertainment goods for gifts, givings and other gatherings.”

McKay emphasized that the store will stand out with its distinct approach. “It’s going to be a very unique style of merchandizing,” he said. “A place that people can feel comfortable in, a place where they’ll be excellent customer service, knowledgeable staff not just in the beverage industry, but in the entertainment and food industry as well.”
The timeline for the store’s opening aligns with the anticipated launch of the new Weis supermarket in the shopping center. “We intend to open it up the same time the supermarket opens up. So that would probably be at least six months, but probably more like nine months from now,” McKay said.
H&R Retail, which describes itself as “the largest retail-only real estate brokerage firm in the greater Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia region,” is managing the site plan for Charlotte Hall Station.
The addition of McKay’s Grapes, Grains & Gatherings is set to bring a distinct shopping experience to the Southern Maryland community.

Thank god! Finally, a liquor store in Southern Maryland. Oh boy, hopefully we get another chain restaurant too.
I know right! We want to be exactly like every other cookie cutter town within driving distance. Who in the world would want unique family run businesses with selection.
Yay! Another overpriced joint bought to you by McKay’s that’ll go under in 5 years!
