LEONARDTOWN, Md. Joseph Arnold Goldsborough of Mechanicsville appeared once again in St. Mary’s County Circuit Court for a scheduled Adult Drug Court review hearing — his second this month — before Judge Joseph Michael Stanalonis. The July 21 court date marks the latest development in a growing file of alleged impaired driving charges against the 46-year-old.

Goldsborough’s ongoing participation in the court’s diversionary program stems from his arrest on May 5, when a sheriff’s deputy found his red SUV nose-down in a ditch near Route 5 and Windward Circle. The vehicle was riding on three wheels. Goldsborough, standing nearby, showed clear signs of intoxication: bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and unstable balance. He admitted to consuming alcohol and medication earlier that night.

After consenting to field sobriety tests, he failed both the horizontal gaze exam and the walk-and-turn, during which he repeatedly stepped off line and eventually abandoned the test midway, asking, “What’s the point?” He declined further evaluation, including the preliminary breath test and chemical analysis, before being arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.

He was charged with five offenses, including two counts of impaired driving, operating without a license, failing to display identification on demand and failure to control vehicle speed. He posted a $5,000 unsecured bond the following day.

This is not Goldsborough’s first time in front of the court. In a separate case from December 2024, he pleaded guilty last month to multiple impaired driving charges tied to another roadside stop. One of the charges reflected a third offense, which could trigger enhanced sentencing. The court ultimately allowed him into Adult Drug Court as part of a rehabilitative alternative.

While no injuries were reported during the May 5 incident, the court has continued to monitor Goldsborough’s progress. His July 21 review hearing follows an earlier check-in on July 7. Another appearance is set for Aug. 20.
