The Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office is investigating a fire that destroyed a van parked at a home on Woodburn Hill Road in Mechanicsville. Investigator Deputy Fire Marshal Dexter Hodges reports that the fire was intentionally set and caused $1,500 damage to the 2001 Ford E-250 van owned by Maria Lemus.
The arson fire was reported at 12:47 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. It took six volunteer firefighters from the Mechanicsville VFD five minutes to bring the blaze under control.
According to DFGM Hodges, โThe fire was determined to be the result of someone igniting the interior of the van on fire and fleeing the scene. A nearby resident discovered the fire and called 911. By the time the Fire Department arrived, the entire vehicle had been destroyed by the fire. Anyone with information about this fire is asked to call the Office of the State Fire Marshal at 443-550-6820.
