LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A 46-year-old Mechanicsville woman is facing criminal charges from two separate incidents on two consecutive days after she was first arrested for violating a protective order, and then, while incarcerated, was charged with indecent exposure for allegedly exposing herself to other inmates.
The saga began on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025, when St. Mary’s County sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on Birch Manor Circle in Mechanicsville. According to charging documents, they found Michelle Elizabeth Brown, 46, on a property from which she was explicitly barred by an active protective order. The order, signed by Judge James L. Tanavage, forbade her from entering the residence, yard or grounds of the petitioner. Brown reportedly made a “spontaneous utterance” to deputies that she had gone to the door and knocked, confirming the violation. She was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
The following day, on Aug. 6, deputies were called to the detention center itself for a report of an indecent exposure. An inmate in the recreation yard stated that Brown had lifted her clothing and exposed her vagina for all to see. Security footage from the recreation yard confirmed the act, showing Brown lifting her clothes in front of several corrections officers.
According to the statement of probable cause, when questioned after being read her Miranda rights, Brown admitted to exposing herself, stating she did it “to show that her genitals were not infected” and because she “thought it was funny.”
Michelle E. Brown faces two separate misdemeanor charges: violate protective order and indecent exposure. The indecent exposure charge carries a maximum penalty of up to three years in prison and a $1,000 fine. Court records show she is being held without bond on the protective order charge, and a competency hearing for that case has been scheduled for Aug. 20, 2025.
