MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A Mechanicsville woman was charged after deputies reported finding suspected crack cocaine and glass smoking devices during a traffic stop in St. Mary’s County.
Christine Marie Gammon, 64, of Mechanicsville, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, not cannabis, and possession of drug paraphernalia following the June 19, 2026, traffic stop.
According to charging documents, a St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop around 1:44 p.m. on northbound Sandgates Bridge Road involving a 2004 Ford Escape.
Charging documents state the vehicle was traveling 90 mph in an area with a posted speed limit of 40 mph.
During the stop, Gammon identified herself with a Maryland driver’s license but allegedly did not have it with her to present to the deputy.
The deputy reported seeing a thick metal wire with suspected crack cocaine residue on it, according to charging documents.
Charging documents state Gammon was told to step out of the vehicle, and a glass smoking device was found inside her purse. A second glass smoking device was allegedly found concealed inside a rag in the purse.
Deputies also reported finding a baggie of suspected crack cocaine inside the center console of the vehicle.
Gammon was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.
Court records show she was released on recognizance June 19.
A trial is set for Aug. 6 in St. Mary’s County District Court.
