ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Maryland Municipal League’s Executive Director Scott Hancock is announcing his retirement from MML after more than 26 years. Serving as MML’s Chief Executive since Dec. 4, 1995, Hancock has dedicated 41 years of his career in service to municipal governments, with the vast majority serving the state of Maryland. He has also served in similar roles in Maine and Rhode Island.

“Looking back on these 26 years in Maryland, I have witnessed so many meaningful advances for this Association, perhaps none more important than the greatly enhanced stature and credibility of Maryland’s municipalities and the League within the state governance system,” said Scott Hancock, MML Executive Director.  He added, “These past two years of managing MML operations during the pandemic offered challenges I could never have dreamed municipal governments nor MML would ever have to encounter. But I am proud that our extraordinary team at MML provided important resources to help our members endure and best serve constituents during this unsettled time.”

In 2016, MML’s Board of Directors approved a detailed succession plan that lays out the process for selecting a new Executive Director, which will be overseen by MML President Jake Day and implemented by the MML Executive Committee, which will serve as the Executive Director Search Committee. Hancock will transition from his MML leadership role on, or about, November 1, 2022.
