On September 12 at approximately 8:29 p.m. members of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the 600 block of Gunsmoke Trail in Lusby for the report of a motor vehicle crash.ย  Upon arrival a 2003 green Jeep Liberty was located in a wooded area.ย  The two occupants of the vehicle were transported from the scene.ย 

The driver, identified as Eric Ashton Harvey, 19 of Lusby, was transported to Prince George’s Hospital Center by Trooper 7.ย  The passenger, Justin Earle Wilder, 19, also of Lusby, was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital by Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad.ย  Wilder succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead by hospital staff.ย 

The driver is in stable condition with a broken femur and will be kept in the hospital for a few days.

The crash and the events leading up to the crash are under investigation by Sgt. V. Bortchevsky and the Crash Reconstruction Team.ย 

Preliminary investigation revealed that the Jeep was travelling southbound on Gunsmoke Trail in the area of Sitting Bull Trail.ย  As the Jeep began to negotiate the turn, the driver lost control for unknown reasons and left the roadway.ย  The Jeep continued through the front yard of a residence on Gunsmoke Trail.ย  It then became airborne and crossed the driveway of the residence and continued into the wooded area next to the residence.ย  The Jeep struck a large tree on the passenger side before coming to final rest.ย
