motorcycle crash in somd

BROOKLYN PARK, Md. — A 24-year-old motorcyclist was critically injured in a crash early Wednesday morning in Brooklyn Park.

The collision occurred around 5:20 a.m. on April 16, 2026, on Ritchie Highway at 9th Avenue. Officers from the Northern District responded to the scene, and the department’s Crash Reconstruction Team was requested.

Preliminary findings indicate a 2013 Honda Pilot was traveling southbound on Ritchie Highway when the driver attempted to make a U-turn at 9th Avenue. A 2025 Kawasaki EX500 motorcycle, also traveling southbound, struck the Honda from the rear.

The 24-year-old male operator of the motorcycle, from Brooklyn Park, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 41-year-old male driver of the Honda, also from Brooklyn Park, along with any passengers in the vehicle, were not injured.

The Crash Reconstruction Team is continuing to investigate the incident.
