
LA PLATA, Md. — On July 11, 2025, nine recruits graduated from the Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy’s Police Entrance Level Training Program, officially joining the ranks of local law enforcement.
The ceremony at La Plata High School recognized deputies from the St. Mary’s, Charles, and Calvert County sheriff’s offices. Four graduates represented Charles County, three came from St. Mary’s, and two from Calvert.
Class Coordinator Cpl. Andre Mitchell of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office opened the program with a formal announcement of the class. SMCJA Director Bobby Jones welcomed attendees, including families and department leaders.

Honor Guard teams from all three counties presented the colors, followed by the national anthem performed by St. Mary’s County Deputy Nathaniel Morrison. Chaplain Larry Palmer of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office delivered the invocation and benediction.
Several graduates were honored for top performance in key areas. Deputy Nathaniel Morrison received both the Scholastic/Academic and Firearms Awards. Calvert County’s Deputy Connor Currie earned the Physical Training Award, while Charles County Officer Adam Dunn was recognized with the EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course) Award. The Steve Allen Award went to Deputy Logan Armbruster of Calvert County.
Graduates included:
- Calvert County: Deputies Logan Armbruster and Connor Currie
- Charles County: Officers Adam Dunn, Antony Nader, Khalil Ward, and Eric Weaver Jr.
- St. Mary’s County: Deputies Jacob Mills, Nathaniel Morrison, and Andrew Raley
Friday’s graduation marked the successful completion of Session 55 and the start of each recruit’s law enforcement career.
