LA PLATA, Md. – In an egregious case of repeated protective order violations, Dennis Lee Jalbert, 44, of North Carolina, was recently extradited to Maryland after allegedly violating a domestic-related protective order 111 times. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) Judicial Services Domestic Violence Unit tracked down Jalbert following a six-month investigation that involved persistent harassment, phone calls, and text messages directed at the protected individual, a Charles County resident.
The case against Jalbert began in April 2024, when the victim secured a protective order due to repeated harassment. Despite this legal mandate to cease all contact, Jalbert allegedly continued to reach out to the victim, ignoring the court order. Between April and October, CCSO officers documented 11 separate reports of violations, which culminated in eight arrest warrants and three criminal summonses. The charges included multiple counts of violating a protective order, harassment, and telephone misuse.
Detectives with CCSO’s Domestic Violence Unit obtained crucial information suggesting Jalbert had fled Maryland and was residing in North Carolina. They coordinated with the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office, which authorized his extradition back to Maryland. With the help of local law enforcement in North Carolina, officers located and arrested Jalbert, transferring him to Charles County to face his charges.
Upon his return, Jalbert was brought before a district court commissioner. Despite the extensive list of charges, he was released on an unsecured $1,500 bond, raising questions among observers about the adequacy of bond conditions in cases of extensive harassment and protective order violations. The victim’s ordeal underscores the challenges and limitations often faced in enforcing protective orders across state lines.

Protective orders in Maryland are a joke. I had a Protective Order against a fired employee at work. Despite repeated calls and showing up at my residence to threaten me and my family, police just told him to leave. An appearance at Court, the County Attorney, had no record of this, even though I told her office about every incident. Had another against a Former Boyfriend of my Daughter, ditto on the above, even paid for a service on my phone that recorded the numbers the threats came from. They never accessed that. The one from work, there’s no records of it on a Judiciary Search. They removed it because he claimed it was interfering with his job.
No wonder there are so many murders by those that have protection orders against them. Good old Chuck County.
First the Judge should be fired immediately. Then Jalbert should be rounded up and put in jail until his trial and have no phone or computer ppriveliges. And finally give him 1 year in jail for each violation with no reduction in sentance or early release.
